sticker paintings

I don’t know why I call these Sticker Paintings, because they’re collages, no paint involved, but nonetheless that’s what I call them. I made the first one of these in 2015 as an assignment for Varoom Magazine on the subject of Obsession. A few years later I returned to the idea and, aided by an eBay shopping spree for stickers, began to make more. The stickers I use must be generic, mass-produced or vintage (I will not use stickers that are made by other artists, or which have too much of a style). My preference is for discontinued “Sandylion” stickers.

Using these in elaborate arrangements is part of a long term interest in “the elevation of the mundane”: using lowly, common, everyday objects to create elaborate compositions. I am well aware, and enamoured of, this practice by “outsider artists” like Felipe Jesus Consalvos.
