I have always loved found letters, so for this Valentines day I wrote four disconnected fragments of love letters, and mailed one to each person on my list so that those people who knew each other had a good chance they wouldn’t get the same letter fragment.
I didn’t sign the letter, or address it except on the envelope, so that the recipient’s experience was of getting this mysterious page.
I carefully wrote each page (beginning in the middle of a sentence and ending in the middle of a sentence) in a way that was both personal and generic at the same time. I heard from a number of people later that the fragment had really struck home to them in some way.
They were printed in purple on pink vellum paper.
